Data protection: facing new challenges
GDPR implementation and FinTech challenges, Covid-19
pandemic and contact tracing applications, data-hungry
platforms are some of the most relevant and discussed issues
of the data-driven environment in which we live. They lead
legal scholars and regulatory bodies to find adequate answers
to these challenges and to draw future scenarios in data
regulation.
Against this background, this roundtable seminar aims to
provide an overview of these debated issues from a European
perspective and in the light of global trends and international
approaches in the field of data protection.
Stefano Leucci is Legal and technology officer at the European Data Protection Supervisor, bridging the gap between the legal framework and forefront technologies as biometrics, artificial intelligence and FinTech. Lilian Mitrou is Professor at the University of the Aegean-Greece and Visiting Professor at the Athens University of Economics and Business and the University of Piraeus. She is President of the Institute for Privacy Law, Data Protection and Technology (IPL), established by the European Public Law Organization. She was Member of the Hellenic Data Protection Authority (1999-2003). Shara Monteleone is legal officer at the Italian Data Protection Authority (Garante per la protezione dei dati personali). Previously, she worked as a policy analyst for the European Parliamentary Research Center, as Assistant Professor at the University of Groningen , as a researcher at INRIA and as a policy analyst at the JRC of the European Commission (IPTS).
