“The new frontiers of innovation between copyright and patent” – Rome, October 29, 2014

The General Direction for Library Heritage, Cultural Institutes and Copyright, of the Italian Ministry for Cultural heritage, Activities and Tourism, through the Service III Copyright and supervision over SIAE and the European University of Rome, part of the activities of CREDA (Research Center of Excellence for copyright law), organized, on the occasion of Italian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, have organized a Convention wich name is “The new frontiers of innovation between copyright and patent“. The Convention will be held on October 29, 2014 at the National Central Library of Rome at 9.00 a.m., as a part of the Research Project of National Interest “The legal regulation of the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) as a tool for strengthening of inclusive, innovative and safe society”. The conference will be attended by Minister of Heritage and Culture and Tourism Dario Franceschini. Is also attended the participation of the President of AGCOM, Angelo Marcello Cardani, the Vice President of Italian Data Protection Authority, Augusta Iannini, as well as several professors from Italian and foreign universities. The debate shall be attended by representatives of WIPO, EPO and the European Commission – DG Connect, as well as representatives from the worlds of politics and representatives of the industry. In the afternoon, the research curated by G. Olivieri, V. Falce, E. Arezzo “Metes and bounds of innovation in biotechnology” (Quaderni di giurisprudenza commerciale, Giuffré 2014), will be presented to the audience. The convention aims to explore the new frontiers of innovation with specific reference to the limits and safeguards placed by the copyright and patent. In particular, the focus will be on the one hand, the challenges of the digital economy, and for another, it will be analyzed the evolution of patent law in the context of biotechnology innovation. The conference will be an opportunity for a deeper discussion between scholars and business and between science and society. The conference is coordinated by Professor Alberto Gambino – PRIN National Coordinator, and the scientific direction is entrusted to the Steering Committee of CREDA (Research Center of Excellence for copyright law) composed by Professors Valeria Falce and Andrea Stazi (European University) and Dr. Maria Concetta Cassata and Lucia Marchi (MIBACT). Since 2012 the Research Center of Excellence for Copyright Law (CREDA) promotes many activities related to the development of a better knowledge of intellectual property, innovation and information technology rights, biotechnology, electronic communications and audiovisual media, right of information and information technology, online rights and liabilities, consumer protection and trade practices, antitrust policy and regulation of network industries. The participation to the Convention is free and will grant 8 credits to the members of the bar, according to the professional education program, and is in process the accreditation for 7 credits Accountants and Accounting Experts Continuing Education.
